Proteomics or proteomic is the large-scale study of proteins, particularly their structures and functions. Proteins are vital parts of living organisms, as they are the main components of the physiological metabolic pathways of cells. The term "proteomics" was first coined in 1997 to make an analogy with genomics, the study of the genes. The word "proteome" is a blend of "protein" and "genome", and was coined by Prof Marc Wilkins in 1994 while working on the concept as a PhD student. The proteome is the entire complement of proteins, including the modifications made to a particular set of proteins, produced by an organism or system. This will vary with time and distinct requirements, or stresses, that a cell or organism undergoes.
If you want to advice us on this section please mail us. We would post here with your contributions in proteome
If you are a undergradaute student then there can be many fun for you. Download all the recent and most utilize softwares from the internet and install on your work station. Now Download Protemics mass spectrum data from the interenet. Now read carefully all the software manuals and literature. Now do your own research at your home. It will be good exercise for a UG student to learn proteomics analysis by use of varios database and software in the field of biology.
