Postdoctoral Fellowship in Biochemistry | Cell biology - USA - Jan 2012

A newly starting and generously funded laboratory in the Department of Cellular & Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Miami, School of Medicine is looking to hire two postdoctoral researchers. The main research direction of the group is focused on posttranslational protein modifications (including, but not limited to, arginylation and proteolysis), in which the functions and mechanisms are still largely undefined and therefore rich in opportunities for exciting discoveries.
Project description : The immediate research topics concern protein metabolism, cell migration and adhesion with mainly biochemical and cell biology approaches. Expansion into topics relevant to cardiovascular diseases, cancer, immunity, and metabolic diseases is expected. Interactions and collaborations with several other established groups on the campus and at the neighboring Scripps Institute (FL) are also expected. The postdoctoral researchers will be able to work on highly multi-disciplinary projects with flexibility to develop their own research directions. Please check the references in the end for more background of the posttranslational arginylation:
Educational Qualification : The ideal candidate for the position should have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in biomedical and/or related majors and a demonstrated ability to work in relevant fields. Learning ability and work ethics are also key factors to be taken into consideration. The initial interview will be held during the Annual Conference of the American Society for Cell Biology in Denver, CO during 12/2-7. Video and/or voice meetings can be arranged for additional interviews. Finalist and certain candidates can be arranged for a follow-up on-site interview and tour, to be scheduled in early 2012 in Miami, FL.
Duration : The starting dates of these positions are expected to be in March 2012, but can be flexible. The pay scale follows NIH guidelines with adjustment for working experience. The city of Miami, Florida is a beautiful tropical city with no state or city income tax.

Interested applicant should contact the PI (Dr. Fangliang Zhang) by email (Fzhang@med.miami.edu). Please state clearly about your citizenship or visa status, education background, and peer-reviewed publications in the main text of the email body, with further information, such as research experience, in an attached CV or resume.
Deadline : 15.01.12
