Experimental Medicine, Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine (NDM), John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford
Grade 7: £29,099 - £35,788 p. a. / Clinical appointment Grade E64: £30,992 - £49,670 p.a.
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist / Clinical Research Fellow in Acute Stroke based in the Laboratory of Cerebral Ischaemia headed by Professor Alastair Buchan in the Experimental Medicine Division of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford. The group has significant experience in undertaking research into neuroprotective strategies for acute stroke, mainly focusing on novel molecular pathways that can reduce the injury to the brain caused by an ischaemic insult.
You will be expected to design and implement projects in the Laboratory of Cerebral Ischaemia and pursue ongoing experimental work investigating acute cerebral ischaemia in models of focal and global ischaemia. You will be using in vivo models of focal and global cerebral ischaemia to investigate novel neuroprotective strategies for acute ischaemic stroke. Projects would involve a variety of techniques including in vivo models of cerebral ischaemia, analytical biochemistry methods, and experimental MRI.
You will have a PhD or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, neuroscience or a related subject. Alternatively you will be a clinician and will have an MD. Experience with in vivo experiments and a strong background in methods of biochemistry is also required. The post is available for up to one year in the first instance.
