2012 USA: Postdoctoral position - Computational Biology, Functional Genomics

A postdoctoral position in computational biology is available at a new lab at the Center for Biomedical Informatics at the Harvard Medical School (HMS). The lab is focused on developing and applying novel computational methods to analysis of epigenetic and regulatory state of the cells from high-throughput sequencing and other modern assays. The candidate will have an opportunity to work in close cooperation with experimental collaborators, investigating complex tissues and pathologies across a variety of model organisms and clinical samples.
Requirements:
  • A strong interest in conducting collaborative research on the topics outlined above is paramount.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • PhD degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics Biophysics, or a related discipline.
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Expertise in statistical methods and algorithm development in the context of biological systems.
  • High proficiency in R and Bioconductor. Knowledge of C/C++ and Java, as well as general proficiency with UNIX operating systems is strongly desired.
  • Experience in analysis of functional sequencing data, such as RNA-seq or ChIP-seq is advantageous.
Employer:
Center for Biomedical Informatics promotes and facilitates collaborative activities in biomedical informatics among researchers at HMS and its affiliated institutions. Its core faculty members conduct research at the intersection of biomedicine and information sciences, including bioinformatics, functional genomics, translational medicine, and clinical knowledge management. The center also hosts the Bioinformatics & Integrative Genomics program (a graduate training program, sponsored by NHGRI) and the Biomedical Informatics Research Training program (a consortium of informatics laboratories at Harvard and MIT, sponsored by NLM).
How to Apply:
Please send cover letter, curriculum vitae and contact information for at least two references to Dr. Peter Kharchenko at peter.kharchenko@post.harvard.edu. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
