Postdoc positions in Cardiovascular Sciences - Belgium - Feb 2012

Research in the lab of Experimental Cardiology focuses on ischemic cardiomyopathy. In collaboration with the group Cardiac Imaging and Hemodynamics we study the mechanisms of regional dysfunction and remodeling in ischemic cardiomyopathy and explore whether local therapy can prevent the adverse remodeling in ischemic cardiomyopathy. The postdoctoral position is in the group on cellular function. The group participates in EUTrigtreat, a FP7 project investigating altered Ca2+ handling in arrhythmias and potential Ca2+-related targets for therapy.

The postdoctoral researcher will focus on subcellular mechanisms, RyR function and the role of microdomains in activation of Na/Ca exchange (Acsai et al., J Physiol., 2011; Biesmans et al. PLoS One 2011). At KULeuven these mechanisms are investigated in ischemic cardiomyopathy (Heinzel et al., Circ Res 2008) while within the EU consortium several relevant mouse models will be studied.

Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher, with PhD or equivalent research experience. Previous research experience in cardiac excitation-contraction coupling, calcium handling or electrophysiology is expected.
